Why Raw Diet

At RawSpirit, raw feeding isn't a trend. It's a return to nature's original design. Real, whole foods unlock your dog's natural vitality, strengthen their immune system, and let true healing happen from the inside out.

Why raw feeding matters

A balanced raw diet works with your dog's biology, not against it.

  • Supports natural healing - bioavailable nutrients and enzymes assist the body's innate healing processes.
  • Strengthens immunity - reduces inflammation and fosters a more resilient immune system.
  • Improves digestion & gut health - whole foods nourish the gut microbiome and enhance nutrient absorption.
  • Promotes skin, coat & joint health - natural fats, collagen and anti-inflammatory nutrients do the heavy lifting.
  • Reduces toxic load - no synthetic fillers, no preservatives.
  • Aligns with biological needs - mimics the diet dogs evolved to eat.
  • Elevates energy & spirit - nutrient-rich food lifts your dog's mood, energy and overall wellbeing.

Your dog deserves to thrive.

How to transition your dog to raw

Switching to a species-appropriate raw diet is a powerful step toward lasting health. We recommend taking it slowly and observing how your dog responds.

1. Prepare the digestive system (5-7 days before)

  • Offer bone broth or aloe vera juice daily to prime the gut.

2. Start slowly

  • Begin with 25% raw and 75% of the current diet.
  • Watch stools daily for firmness and consistency.
  • If stools stay firm for 3-4 days, step up to 50%, then 75%, then 100%.
  • Each phase typically lasts 2-5 days, depending on your dog.

3. Gut support during the switch

Add our ReSet supplement during the initial transition. It supports the digestive system, promotes gut-lining repair, and helps with nutrient absorption.

Important things to keep in mind
  • Fresh water - always available.
  • Portion control - match feeding amounts to your dog's weight, age and activity level.
  • Balanced meals - over time, ensure correct ratios of muscle meat, bone, organs and key nutrients.
  • Safe handling - treat raw food the way you'd treat raw food for humans: clean hands, utensils, surfaces.
  • Monitor body condition - not just the scale; adjust portions to keep your dog lean and healthy.
  • Life stage needs - puppies, adults and seniors all eat differently.
  • Veterinary guidance - for medical conditions, consult a vet experienced in raw nutrition.
Using the feeding calculator below

Use the calculator further down this page to find your dog's daily raw food requirement and a 1 kg pack recommendation in seconds. Just enter weight, life stage and activity level.

  • Puppies may need 7-10% of body weight during growth.
  • Adults typically need 2-5% depending on activity.
  • Seniors may benefit from slightly less if activity drops.

The result is the total daily feeding amount. If you feed more than once a day, divide by the number of meals.

Example - if the daily feed is 800 g:

  • 1 meal/day - 800 g per meal
  • 2 meals/day - 400 g per meal
  • 3 meals/day - ~265 g per meal
Pack sizes & how much to order

RawSpirit Wholistic Raw Blends currently come in 1 kg packs. Use the calculator above to figure out daily needs, then count packs.

Example - if your dog needs 800 g per day:

  • Weekly need = 800 g × 7 = 5.6 kg
  • Two weeks = 11.2 kg
  • Order roughly 11-12 × 1 kg packs

Round up slightly, especially if treats or extras are part of the diet.

Treats & extras

If you're giving treats or chews during the day, reduce the raw portion accordingly. About 100 g of treats → subtract 100 g from the raw feed.

Meal adjustments

Feeding isn't rigid. Watch your dog's body condition and energy, and tune portions as needed.
